What happens when we deliberately blur the boundaries between fiction and fact?

St Mary's Parish Church

As part of the Windows to the Worlds festival, we are inviting you to join a creative writing workshop!Together, we&#x27;ll explore the history St Mary&#x27;s church, and how to use historical facts as a starting point for speculative writing. To begin, we’ll gather some facts from our surroundings in St Mary’s Parish Church and then, using a series of writing prompts and exercises, we will consider how to blend facts into our fictions. You may not write your entire, best-selling historical novel in this session, but you’ll come away armed with some useful tools and tips for blending fiction and facts.Designed for participants aged 14+, suitable for beginners and experienced writers----------Tickets and walk-insIf you know when you want to join us, we advise you to book a free ticket. We also hold back a small number of tickets for walk-ins on the day. These places will be distributed on a first come first served basis. Book a ticket or arrive early to save yourself a space!----------Do I need to bring anything?No writing experience necessary, just bring a notebook and your writing tool of choice - perhaps the pen is mightier than the trowel?----------Keeping you safeIn response to Covid-19, we are following public health guidance and may have additional measures in place, which are carefully designed to keep you and our staff safe and healthy. This means that you will have to wear a mask while you are inside the church, with the exception of those who are medically exempt.----------About Windows To The World FestivalThis workshop is part of a festival for the NLHF funded &#x27;Windows to the World&#x27; project. From the 12th to the 23rd of July, Windows to the World Festival is celebrating the colourful history of the oldest church in Barnard Castle – through art, music, and history.The church will be home to Journeys – Teithiau, a stunning exhibition of stained glass artwork by Jonathan Cooke, Catrin Davies, Nicola Kantorowicz, Elizabeth Lamont, Rachel Phillips, and Christian Ryan currently exhibited at the Stained Glass Museum at Ely.We will offer workshops, tours, performances and heaps of other exciting activities.
