Join us to celebrate the launch of our second Visceral Bodies special issue of Studies in the Maternal, alongside the launch of Anna Brook’s prose-poetry book Motherhood: A Ghost Story.6-9pm (readings from 6.30pm)The Poetry Café22 Betterton StreetLondon, WC2H 9BX(5 min walk from Holborn tube)The launch event will include readings, the chance to find out more about the journal issue, drinks and nibbles!Through artworks, poetry, creative writing and essays, our ‘Affect’ issue of Studies in the Maternal explores the intersections of affect, creativity and the maternal (understood as broadly as possible and encompassing childlessness and loss). We can’t wait to share the moving, important work gathered together in this new issue.Alongside the journal, we will also be launching Visceral Bodies founding member Anna Brook’s prose-poetry book Motherhood: A Ghost Story. Described as tracing “the spectral nature of early motherhood: how the body is unmade and remade, how time dissolves and reforms, and how past and present flicker in and out of alignment.” (Broken Sleep Books)Anna will give a reading from their book, alongside readings by contributors to our Studies in the Maternal special issue.We would love to see you there!(Header image by artist Helen Acklam)
