The Ministry of Justice and the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) are carrying out a public consultation on how to modernise lasting powers of attorney (LPA).

The aims of this work are to:
1.	increase safeguards, especially for the donor
2.	improve the process of making and registering an LPA for donors, attorneys and third parties
3.	achieve sustainability for OPG whilst keeping LPAs as affordable as possible for all people in society
In this live stream you&#x27;ll hear from Minister Chalk on the history of the Mental Capacity Act and lasting powers of attorney in a pre-recorded video.You&#x27;ll also hear from the Public Guardian, Nick Goodwin, on how the Office of the Public Guardian needs to adapt as an organisation to provide this service. He&#x27;ll discuss the benefits to wider society if we can gather enough information and evidence from the public to show why legislation change is needed.A panel session will follow to answer your questions featuring our Digital Product manager and Holly Simpson, Senior Policy Lead for the Ministry of Justice.Please submit your questions to communications@publicguardian.gov.uk we will try and get through as many as possible in the time permitted.
