Inspired by the true story of Manolo Vital, El 47 explores the less-discussed side of the ‘Spanish Miracle’, in which the country’s economic boom revitalised many of the nation’s cities, including the film’s setting, Barcelona. Manolo, a bus-driver disheartened by the marginalisation of impoverished Extremaduran and Andalusian immigrant communities in the city’s outskirts, hijacks a vehicle on the 47 bus route. The route, according to the local government’s lies, could not reach the outer Torre Baró neighbourhood.
