Creating Hidden Histories

The Council for British Archaeology is an educational charity. The established voice for archaeology in the UK, we are equally at home championing volunteers in a muddy field or lobbying MPs in Westminster. Our independence enables us to inform, support and advise all UK archaeological exploration. We've been doing this for 70 years, but we're always looking to the future - bringing a 21st century approach to unearthing the past.

Council for British Archaeology

This event is for anyone with a passion for their local heritage who would like to discover, create and share stories of their local history

Join Jim Butler as he talks you through the challenges of filming using free tools and basic equipment."In May 2020, and under lockdown conditions, I began creating a series of films exploring the Hidden Histories of Leicester and Leicestershire. Prior to this point I had never made any sort of film before. Thankfully I had a friend who was able to advise me on how to do it. In this presentation, I will give participants the information they need to create their own Hidden Histories-style films, from how to research their own local histories utilising free search tools like the Heritage Gateway, how to form a narrative for their film, how to film their videos cheaply and effectively (all my videos have been filmed on my smart-phone) and advice on how to edit and publish their films."
