In this workshop we leverage outrageously innovative research, teaching, integration of knowledge, and applications through this academy.

The International Centre for Research and Human Development, Dominican University Ibadan, NigeriaIn Collaboration withAfrican Higher Education and Research Observatory, UKPresentsAn International Skills for Students, Graduates, and Start-Ups Workshop onBECOMING GLOBAL CORPORATE ACADEMICS:Exploring Key Masteries in Research, Teaching, Integration of Knowledge, and Applications (RETIoKA)KEY QUESTIONS1. Why do many developing countries remain so after so many decades of independence?2. How can knowledge workers master new sets of RETIoKA skills that profoundly impact wealth and job creation, across academia, industry, government, and wider society (the Quadruple Helix)?3. For academics, say, what are the Sevenfold Ways they can unleash such impact in the Quadruple Helix, and hence attain senior positions with a Big Bang technically and financially?4. Indeed, how can traditional academics become global corporate academics, by effectively professionalising their disciplines? How also, can they leverage advances in the digital economy and ICT to become platform global economics?WHY IS THE WORKSHOP UNIQUE?The workshop uses the above questions as springboards to interrogate current gaps in traditional higher education curricula, especially with regards to so-called non-professional courses. It shows how almost every discipline can be professionalised without sacrificing the intellectual curiosity that underpins fundamental research. For example, it explores high-impact professionalism in subjects like History and International Relations, Pure Mathematics, and Physics akin to the professionalism experienced in Medicine, Law, Engineering, Financial Management and Accounting, for example. It reveals the nature of new masteries in the pedagogy these disciplines that equips learners with the skills to practify (that is continually apply the core constructs in the disciplines through everyday experiences), whilst also engaging in advanced applications and consulting work in the fields. The consequence of these innovations in research, teaching, learning, assessments, consulting and community is that national education systems that apply the ideas in this workshop will ultimately train an army of ready-to-build academics, students, and professionals who continually create innovative products, services, hence wealth, thereby drastically reducing unemployment.Technically, it shows attendees practical and theoretically sound ways to combine familiar teaching formats - lectures, group and pair discussions used in tutorials, intelligent questions and answers, hands-on 'try it now' exercises, scenarios and case studies for boosting critical thinking - with a wider repertoire of signature pedagogies, to produce elite learners. Learners who, for want of a better metaphor, are a cross among distinctive students, elite soldiers like SAS and Navy Seals, high-performance corporate leaders, and sports celebrities.Given that there are circa twenty such pedagogies, about fifteen of which generally elude traditional academics, this is the first time known to the facilitators that such a deep-vein suite of research, teaching, learning, and assessment strategies are deployed in training academics, students, and professionals, to achieve carefully designed Learning Outcomes. It shows additionally how to develop the capacities of these elite learners to manage complex organisational situations on the standpoint of 7Es of Education and Personal Development, originally propounded by Professor Ezepue - Expertise, Experience, Entrepreneurship, Enterprise Development, Employability, Emotional Intelligence, and Execution. The workshop explicates the true reasons current traditional approaches to curriculum development and delivery in higher education globally, especially in developing countries, are somewhat 'puerile'.Echoing recent views by Elon Musk, the workshop demonstrates the nature of training that produces such corporate titans as Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, from within universities, by teaching learners about a spanner directly under the bonnet of a stalled car, where they use the spanner to loosen faulty nuts, with explanations of the mechanical features of the spanner not separated from this experience. It took almost two decades to develop and successfully pilot these ideas and they are offered at ridiculously low fees because the vision of AfriWorld Higher Education and Research Observatory UK is to transform and democratise global (higher) education, professionalise all disciplines thus, and fast-track the socio-economic development of all countries, especially developing countries.PARTICIPANTSAcademics, students, professionals, policy makersKEY BENEFITSa.
