This workshop orchestrates fifteen fundamental laws and thirty-two habits of highly creative people in different career settings.

The AfriWorld Higher Education and Research Observatory, UK In Collaboration withThe International Centre for Research and Human Development, Dominican University Ibadan, Oyo State, NigeriaPresentsAn International Skills for Students, Graduates, and Start-Ups (SSGS) Workshop onBECOMING STAR PERFORMERS IN OUR CAREERS AND LIFE-WORLDS:A Masterclass on Fifteen Laws of Success and Thirty-Two Creativity HabitsThe workshop aims to transform and democratise global education and change, by equipping academics, students, and professionals with deep skills for personal and career success in their different life-worlds – personal life, family, relationships, careers, financial destiny, mental and physical health, for example.KEY QUESTIONS1. What are the fifteen fundamental laws of success and thirty-two skills of highly creative people?2. How do they play out in different settings across academia, industry, government, and wider society?3. How do you use your masteries of these competences to become a star performer in your personal life and career?PARTICIPANTSAcademics, students, professionals, and policy makersKEY BENEFITSa. Detailed training notes with illuminating exercises, pre-reads and additional resourcesb. Attendance certificatesc. 2 CPD pointsd. Follow-on support for continual mastery of the skills at AfriWorld spin-offs - www.duicrehud.com and www.glotress.co.uk. WHY IS THE WORKSHOP UNIQUE?The workshop uses the above questions as springboards to explore the basic laws of success and key habits of highly successful people. Historically, it delineates the personal and psycho-social factors that ‘determine’ the successes of high-achievers like Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, J P Morgan, Rockefeller, Carnegie Mellon, McArthur, presidents, global church leaders, elite sportsmen and women, top academics like Nobel Laureates, recently clinical researchers who developed covid-19 vaccines in very short time frame, and professionals, for example. Taking examples from these different settings across academia, industry, government, and wider society, you will realise the ubiquity of these influences. You will, therefore, begin to examine which among the influences you think you apply in your life and what could be different if you consciously develop all the habits and apply the laws from now. Ultimately, you will see how doing so will enable you to become a star performer in your career, whether in self-employment or as an employee of an organisation. The interesting questions in these regards are as follows. MOTIVATING QUESTIONS AND POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGYEven if I am a highly successful academic, student, professional or policy maker, how much more successful could I have been if I consciously live these laws and habits? Is my incomplete deployment of these influences in my life – personal affairs, family, relationships, and career - the reason for my relative underperformance, compared to my peers? Is it late to imbibe and use them in these different life-worlds? Given the following partial listing of these laws and habits, which among them are so necessary for success in life that they are exhibited by the top 1-2% of the most successful people in the world, by career and financial success, say. Why, therefore, should I remain outside this category? Why can’t I literally eat my cake and have it, by merging the success DNAs of global corporate academics, responsible business titans, elite sports figures, and skilled leaders and politicians in my endeavours? How do these laws and habits get me there? Even when I may have seen these laws of success and habits of highly creative people, how can this workshop and related short courses equip me to successfully apply them in my life from now, more than I have done so far? What frameworks and elements from the psychology of work and human performance reinforce these influences in getting me ahead? We set dramatize the power of these questions using constructs in positive psychology and the psychology of work and human performance, not in a textbook style, but a practical enough way to enable you apply the laws and habits in question.A GLIMPSE OF THE LAWS AND HABITSHoping you may have heard about them before now, the fundamental laws were initially propounded by Napoleon Hill and include:A definite chief aim; self-confidence; the habit of saving; initiative and leadership; imagination; the habit of doing more than paid for; and the golden rule. The thirty-two habits of highly creative people include:Being sensitive to contexts, opinions and issues (emotional intelligence); not motivated by money; sense of destiny; adaptability; being tolerant of ambiguity (multiple answers to a problem); being observant; ability to perceive the world differently; seeing different possibilities in situations; asking questions; can synthesize and see the big picture; able to fantasize; being flexible (willing to try things in many different ways); being profoundly creative (can produce lots of ideas or possibilities); imaginative; intuitive; original; ingenuous; energetic; sense of humour; being self-actualising (focus on developing yourself to the best you can); self-discipline; self-knowledge; having specific interests; …., non-conformance (but not to the point of anarchy); confidence; risk-taking; persistence. In asking ‘How do they play out in different settings across?’ and ‘How do you use your masteries of these competences to become a star performer in your personal life and career?’, we provide myriad examples and easy-to-follow steps that will enable you to affirm these questions in your life, using additional organising frameworks.ORGANISING FRAMEWORKS AND TRANSFORMATIVE EDUCATION We will walk you through some other frameworks which bring the laws and habits together, as in a practitioner’s toolkit. An example is the 7Es of Education and Personal Development, originally propounded by Professor Ezepue ,namelyExpertise, Experience, Entrepreneurship, Enterprise Development, Employability, Emotional Intelligence, and Execution. Another is Howard Gardner’s 5 Minds for the Future – discipline, creating, synthesising, responsible, and ethical minds. Importantly, the workshop shows that if traditional approaches to curriculum development and delivery in all levels of education globally, especially in developing countries, put a premium on these skills, we would have had many more citizens of the world who are happy, successful, financially comfortable, healthier mentally and physically, far more than currently obtains in their lives. Lamentably, this not generally the case, except in courses like business (think strategy and HRM), psychology and psychological medicine. Hence, we set up the Skills for Students, Graduates and Start-Ups (SSGS) Academy, first in the AfriWorld Higher Education and Research Observatory, UK (2013), and now in LinkedIn. This academy is our small way of making a difference in the world. The academy mounts monthly workshops for this purpose.FEESNigeria: N20,000 International: £50Nigerians may register directly by paying the event fee into the Dominican University Ibadan First Bank Acct.
