In our September session we will talk about a classic of contemporary Spanish theatre

The Library of the Instituto Cervantes in Manchester invites you to join our Spanish Reading Group!This is a great opportunity for all Spanish language learners to explore Hispanic literature in a friendly and welcoming environment tailored to your level.For our September session, we're inviting intermediate students (B2+) to read and discuss Las bicicletas son para el verano, a beloved play from contemporary Spanish theatre by Fernando Fernán Gómez.It's the summer of 1936, and Luis must stay in Madrid with his family to study. Despite doing poorly in his classes, he tries to convince his father to buy him a bicycle so he can go out with a friend. The argument drags on, but everything is put on hold when the Spanish Civil War breaks out.We'll be diving into the play over two separate sessions to make it a little easier for everyone, with the first part scheduled for September and the second for October.

The reading group is led by Luz Comendador (librarian), with academic support from Ana Valbuena (teacher at the Instituto Cervantes in Manchester).Suitable for intermediate students: at B2+Participants will receive the texts from our library so they can read them in advance.Further information: bibman@cervantes.es

El Club de Lectura para Estudiantes de Español es una actividad dirigida a lectores no nativos de español que deseen iniciarse gradualmente en las literaturas hispanas y encontrar un espacio amable y distendido de conversación adaptado a su nivel.Los textos, originalmente escritos en español, están seleccionados de acuerdo con el nivel de aprendizaje.En septiembre, os invitamos a leer y compartir vuestras impresiones sobre Las bicicletas son para el verano, un famoso y apreciado clásico del teatro español contemporaneo de Fernando Fernán Gómez.Es el verano de 1936 y Luis debe quedarse en Madrid con su familia para estudiar. A pesar de su bajo rendimiento académico, intenta convencer a su padre de que le compre una bicicleta para poder salir con una amiga. La discusión se alarga, pero todo queda en suspenso cuando estalla la Guerra Civil.Para que sea más fácil para todos, abordaremos la obra en dos sesiones consecutivas: la primera parte está programada para septiembre y la segunda para octubre.
