The National Trust have been looking into the colonial histories of many of their buildings.

The National Trust have been looking into the colonial histories of many of their buildings. Basildon Park has many aspects that would be fascinating to delve into from a South Asian perspective. It was owned by Francis Sykes, a returning â€˜nabobâ€™ from the East India company, was originally furnished with objects brought back from India, and there is evidence that Francis Sykes left money to an Indian servant called Thomas Radakissan. 

We are Anita Goveas and Farhana Khalique, widely-published flash fiction writers, and Anita is also on the editorial team for Flashback Fiction, an online journal for historical flash fiction. We have previously run workshops together for Dahlia publishing and the Stay at Home Literary Festival 

We would like a two-three hour slot that could be live on Zoom or at Basildon Park (lockdown restrictions permitting), during which we would invite other writers to explore the history of Basildon Park through its people, objects and setting and produce three pieces of flash fiction.
