REACH Cornwall (ESF Business Clusters Project)

This fully funded webinar aims to promote awareness  and offer an introduction to managing diabetes well in community healthcare settings.

In the UK, there are nearly 4 million people who have diabetes. 90% of those living with diabetes have type 2, 8% have type 1 and 2% of people have a rarer type of diabetes. Furthermore, it is believed that as many as one in four residents in community healthcare settings have a type of diabetes. *Through our diabetes webinar we are aiming to promote awareness of managing diabetes well in community healthcare settings. This session be an introduction to diabetes and be led by three NHS specialists: Caroline Carne, Lead Diabetes Dietitian, Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust; Alison Parker, Diabetes Specialist Nurse, Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust; and Tarna Morrison, Diabetes and Acute Dietitian, Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust. Detailed content for this session is being developed and can be tailored to the needs of the organisations who wish to attend. We plan to include the following:<ul><li>What is diabetes? Covering types, treatments and implications of diabetes. </li><li>Complications. Discussing how to reduce the adverse effects and complications associated with diabetes. </li><li>Management. This will consider optimal management of diabetes through monitoring, diet and lifestyle. </li><li>Free Resources. Signposting and information on Free Diabetes Resources. </li><li>Q&A to Expert Panel.
