Introduction to Mixed Ability: North West

Sport has the power to transform lives, and yet there are still people excluded or segregated  because of stigma, prejudice or personal perceptions of their capability.Mixed Ability is a social movement  within sports, actively promoting inclusion and equality through a sense of belonging and membership to a group, team or club. IMAS works with experts by experience to co-produce and co-deliver educational resources to train coaches, sports clubs and governing bodies in the Mixed Ability model. Our aim is to ensure that everyone, of any ability and life experience, is welcomed and included as an equal into grassroots sports and competitions around the world.Mixed Ability is not a special project, nor classifies or identifies participants. We emphasise regular, frequent and sustainable activities, self-determination, club membership and opportunities for social interaction for everyone. We work with participants from a wide range of background and abilities who share experiences and learning through interactive and accessible training resources, creating sporting environments that are safe, welcoming and non-judgmental.We work for a sustainable and long-lasting cultural change in sport, let's society follow!

International Mixed Ability Sports

Introduction to Mixed Ability: A free workshop for clubs and coaches based in the north west of England.

Mixed Ability is a social movement within sports, actively promoting inclusion and equality through a sense of belonging and membership to a group, team or club. At IMAS, we help bring people of all abilities together to play sports and learn from each other. We do this by training coaches, sports clubs and governing bodies in the Mixed Ability model to ensure everyone, of any ability and life experience, is welcomed and included as an equal into grassroots sports.The spread of coronavirus across the world reminded many of us how important sport, exercise and connections are to our health and wellbeing. Social distancing turned into social isolation, and a lack of sport had a negative impact on our mental and physical health during successive lockdowns. The re-opening of group sports and clubs was the date that many people first looked forward to. The last 18 months has also been a time of reflection, a time to see and appreciate people and our local communities, rather than someone’s status or abilities. As games, clubs and competitions return, we want more people to get involved with Mixed Ability sports. As part of our commitment to building back a fairer and more equal society, IMAS are offering a free &#x27;Introduction to Mixed Ability&#x27; workshop for all clubs and coaches in the north west on Wednesday 20th October, 6.00 - 7.30pm. This workshop will introduce you to the Mixed Ability model, supporting you to welcome a greater diversity of people, increase membership, and become more sustainable. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to ask questions and address any concerns that you may have about getting started. All workshop delegates will receive a free welcome pack including the resources you need to start your Mixed Ability journey, plus some fun freebies! In addition to this free workshop, we will be selecting a number of clubs to receive free IMAS Accreditation training, usually priced at £700. Our accredited clubs have full access to our peer network and the research we conduct, drawing on the latest evidence from across the world.
