Introducing a proposal for transforming waste and surplus into resources in the Stroud district by creating local hubs and online platforms

Stroud District Action on Plastic have invited Will Mansell, founder of <a href="https://www.thegracenetwork.org.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Grace Network</a>, to talk about an exciting new proposal that will significantly enhance our local circular economy in the Stroud district. The creation of a physical hub and online platform for sharing resources, repairing, recycling, distributing surplus food, composting and other schemes will engage local communities to turn waste into resources. Based on the hub &amp; spokes model, this proposal will help to enhance existing schemes in the Stroud valleys, such as community composting, repair cafes, furniture banks and Terracycle recycling. It will also provide a home for new schemes such as tool libraries, scrapstores and refurbishing e-waste.We have also invited Alicia Carey, CEO <a href="https://www.hawkwoodcollege.co.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Hawkwood College</a>, to give us a brief introduction to Doughnut Economics – “a compass for human prosperity in the 21st century, with the aim of meeting the needs of all people within the means of the living planet”.Proceeds from the sales of the tickets will go to Atelier Stroud and the Trinity Rooms to support their work in the community. The event will also be live streaming via Zoom (link to be provided). Stroud District Action on Plastic volunteer meetings are resuming in September after a long break during Covid19 and this talk marks the beginning of our new programme.

<ul><li>Will Mansell is the founder of The Grace Network CIC, a social enterprise incubator that has launched 9 businesses in the past 5 years. These have often been led by those with lived experience of poverty. Prior to The Grace Network, he founded our local foodbank and is the co-founder of Stroud District Kid’s Stuff, The Long Table and Kick off Stroud.</li><li>Alicia Carey is the Principal and CEO of Hawkwood College and director of Create Gloucestershire. As a charity, the college brings together people and organisations from many backgrounds in support of creative endeavour, a flourishing community and a sustainable environment. Alicia has supported Stroud District Action on Plastic in many different ways over the past few years.</li></ul>
