Stop Domestic Abuse Ambassador Training

Stop Domestic Abuse Ambassadors are embedded within our communities and who, through our training, can increase and improve awareness, understanding and responses to domestic abuse. Our Ambassadors can challenge myths and stereotypes and reduce the stigma felt by victims, with the aim to identify abuse and encourage those who are experiencing abuse to recognise what is being done to them, to speak out and to seek support. Domestic abuse needs a community response and professionals, colleagues, friends and family are key to early identification and intervention as well as victim confidence. We recognise that these conversations can be challenging and we aim to build confidence in our Ambassadors.

Following our training Ambassadors will:

• Feel confident in how to spot potential signs of domestic abuse
• Feel equipped to support someone sharing their personal experiences of abuse
• Have the knowledge on how and where to signpost/refer the person for support from specialist domestic abuse services
• Be aware of warning signs that someone may be using Abusive behaviours and how to safely engage with them.
• Have an understanding of People Using Abusive Behaviours, the tactics they use and how to be safe in their engagement with them.
