If it is crucial to understand where to find the data available and how to retrieve them, the second step for a successful bioinformatics analysis is an understanding the gold standard for recording and organizing the data. Most life scientists (at any career stage) have data in spreadsheets, so this is the place that many research projects start and how data are delivered to the bioinformatician.

This course will teach you how to prepare data for bioinformatics analyses and how to improve data organization to make research more reproducible and effective.

In this one day introductory course you will learn:

• How to implement best practices in data table formatting

• How to format data in spreadsheets for effective data use

• How to format data in spreadsheets to be imported into R

• To identify and address common spreadsheet errors and how to correct them.

• How to use basic quality control features

• How to export data from spreadsheet programs so they can be read into R

This training is open to:

• All health care professionals - whether you are an allied health professional, nurse, pharmacist, health care scientist or doctor.

• Clinical or non-clinical researchers, at any career stage.

• Those working in industry that use health data

• PhD students.
