Arthur Rank Hospice Charity supports people in Cambridgeshire who are living with a life-limiting illness.  Our care and services are provided free of charge to patients from our new location at Shelford Bottom, Cambridge and theAlan Hudson Day Treatment Centrein Wisbech, North Cambridgeshire.We deliver care to over 1,000 patients each year through our specialist palliative care Inpatient Unit, Day Therapy and Community including Hospice at Home Services, helping our patients and their loved ones to make every moment count.We would not be able to provide all of these services, without the generosity of our supporters, donors, local businesses, community groups and all those who undertake fundraising activities or who give up their time to volunteer from the local and wider community.  We are grateful for their support and involvement

This day is developed for healthcare professionals to increase their competence and confidence when caring for palliative patients.

Good symptom management is essential to improving the quality of life for patients and their families. This session aims to inform your practice and refresh your knowledge about how to manage some of the common symptoms experienced by palliative patients.This session includes:<ul><li>Identify the common symptoms experienced at end of life</li><li>Review the elements of assessment and management of clinical symptoms experienced by patients with palliative disease including:</li></ul><ol><li>breathlessness</li><li>agitation</li><li>nausea</li><li>fatigue</li><li>pain</li></ol><ul><li>Consider malignant and non-malignant disease</li><li>Discuss pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of symptoms</li><li>Explore Holistic assessment and the role of the MDT</li><li>Discuss the concept of Total pain</li><li>Understand when to refer to specialist services</li><li>Recognise the personal impact of working with patients who are dying</li></ul>Price: £100.00 per person .Fully Funded Places are available for CPFT staff and ARHC staff. You will be asked for proof of eligibility so please only register for a free place if you are eligible.Directions and Visitor Parking to the Education &amp; Conference CentreBy Car: If you are using Sat Nav please use the P&amp;R postcode CB22 3AB as some sat navs do not currently recognise the location of the new hospice. A map with directions is available at http://www.arhc.org.uk/contact-us.aspCar Parking: Delegates and visitors to the Education &amp; Conference Centre should park at the Babraham Road Park and Ride located next to the hospice and use the footpath to the Centre. Car parking at the Park and Ride is free for up to 18 hours. The car park at the Hospice is reserved for patients, families and Blue Badge holders only.By Public Transport/Taxi: Cambridge railway station is approximately 3 miles from the Hospice. Taxis are available outside the entrance to the station or buses run from the city centre/railway station/Addenbrookes to the Babraham Park &amp; Ride. For non-attendees who have a fully funded ticket please note we reserve the right to charge a fee of £20.00, however extenuating circumstances will be taken into consideration when applying the cancellation fee.
