Local Community Fostering

For prospective and newly approved carers

Please register for a space under your borough only. If there are no more spaces for your borough - please register under the waiting list. If a place becomes available you will be contacted directly. If you are part of a couple you only need book 1 place and both of you can attend. All newly approved foster carers must complete the Training, Support and Development Standards (TSDs) within 12 months or 18 months if you're a family and friends carer.Ideally, your portfolio should be typed and include practical examples that show your knowledge, skills, and learning. This helps demonstrate your understanding of what’s involved in being a foster carer for looked after children.Foster carers must evidence all the standards under each of the following seven headings: 1. Understand the principles and values essential for fostering children and young people 2. Understand your role as a foster carer 3. Understand health and safety, and health care 4. Know how to communicate effectively 5. Understand the development of the children and young people 6. Keep children and young people safe from harm 7. Develop yourself During these workshops you can:<ul><li>Receive advice and guidance in order to produce a high-quality portfolio which achieves the standards.</li><li>Bring your portfolio and check if you are on the right track and gain feedback.</li><li>Get peer support by sharing any issues and challenges in a supportive environment with others who are also working to achieve the standards.</li><li>Arrange further tailored support at a time that suits you.</li></ul>
