Hugh Odling-Smee welcomes Colm Toíbín, Bernard McLaverty and Tara Ison as they discuss their favourite Brian Moore novel, how his work has influenced their own writing, and the relevance of his work today.This is a online event. <a href="https://paradossotheatre.com/about-the-festival/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">For information about your booking and our Covid Safety Measures click here</a>.Hugh Odling Smee is currently Manager of Film Hub NI, part of the BFI Film Audience Network and based at Queen’s Film Theatre. He has over 25 years’ experience working in Belfast&#x27;s arts and heritage sectors for organisations as diverse as the Linen. Colm Tóibín is the author of ten novels, including The Magician, his most recent novel; The Master, winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize; Brooklyn, winner of the Costa Book Award; The Testament of Mary; and Nora Webster, as well as two story collections and several books of criticism. He is the Irene and Sidney B. Silverman Professor of the Humanities at Columbia University. Three times shortlisted for the Booker Prize, Tóibín lives in Dublin and New York.Bernard MacLaverty was born in Belfast and lived there until 1975 when he moved to Scotland with his wife, Madeline, and four children. He has been a Medical Laboratory Technician, a mature student, a teacher of English and occasionally a Writer-in-Residence (Universities of Aberdeen, Augsburg, Liverpool John Moore’s and Iowa State). After living for a time in Edinburgh and the Isle of Islay he now lives in Glasgow. He is a member of Aosdana in Ireland.He has published five novels and six collections of short stories most of which are gathered into Collected Stories (2013).His latest book, Blank Pages is available to buy from all good bookshops. Tara Ison is the author of the novels A Child out of Alcatraz, The List, and Rockaway; the essay collection Reeling Through Life: How I Learned To Live, Love, and Die at the Movies; and the short story collection Ball. She is a Professor of Creative Writing at Arizona State University.
