What Do Men Tell Us about Pornography, and What Does Pornography Tell Us about Men? a talk by Robert Jensen

Professor Robert Jensen will deliver the keynote speech for engage 2021: masculinity. patriarchy. feminism. with his talk “What Do Men Tell Us about Pornography, and What Does Pornography Tell Us about Men?” SUMMARY:The feminist critique of pornography is helpful in understanding the experiences of both women and men. How are women used in making porn, and what do women experience in a pornified world? How are men socialized to find pleasure in the exploitation of women, and how can they resist that training? In this talk, Robert Jensen will discuss how pornography and the other sexual-exploitation industries (prostitution, escort services, stripping) reflect and reinforce patriarchy and male dominance, but also explore how men are increasingly looking for ways to reject that view of sex and sexuality. How can the feminist critique help gay men as well as straight men? The talk will include frank descriptions of pornography, but no images will be shown.There will be time for a brief Q&amp;A session following Professor Jensen’s talk and the event will end at approximately 8.45pm UK time. We are offering this talk on a self-selected donation basis. Our suggested donation for the event is £5. engage is a not-for profit event. ALL PROCEEDS from ticket sales will be donated to Women's Aid and Women for Afghan Women.
