An immersive wellness event, centring culturally diverse communities.

Between protesting and demonstrating following the 2020 murder of George Floyd, raising awareness about the ongoing racial and ethnic mortality disparities only getting wider amid the pandemic, and beyond, it’s clear that the fight for racial justice is neither easy nor near completion. Anti-racism work is often difficult and exhausting, further traumatising culturally diverse communities all over again. With all these urgent obligations and enraging events, centring joy/wellness has become a necessary practice in culturally diverse communities. Safe spaces12:00-13:30Zoom A space where you as a member of a global majority community can express and explore your experience in the world through this virtual session with a qualified therapist providing support. This space will help you reflect collectively with others on the effects of Covid-19, racism, inequality, and trauma and develop practical strategies to deal with the day to day impact of these. Using the Tree of Life model we will explore our strengths, our heritage and our aspirations for the future. Come ready with a pen, paper and an open mind. Our collective wellbeing is the community’s business, and we must find ways of finding joy amid unrest.

Session will be facilitated by Naomi Mwasambili.Naomi Mwasambili has worked for over a decade in the area of social innovation, psychology, mental health and research. Starting her career in research, she has worked as a clinician and, more recently, been focused on service and product design. Her team at Chanua have developed a range of products and services embedding play, gamification and technology in areas of health, mental health and enterprise development and an example of this can be seen through their Neuro Champions programme training young leaders in areas of the Brain and Mental Health through immersive training, play and technology. During the covid-19 pandemic her team have been supporting the rise in mental health problems and developed Neurolove, a therapeutic platform for young people between the ages of 8-25 and a collaboration with Inc Arts to develop Inc Arts Minds providing culturally appropriate therapeutic support to people who have experienced racial trauma in the arts.
