The Software Sustainability Institute (www.software.ac.uk) is an EPSRC, AHRC, BBSRC, ESRC, NERC, MRC and STFC funded national facility that cultivates world-class research with software.We help people build better software, and we work with researchers, developers, funders and infrastructure providers to identify key issues and best practice in research software.

RSC: Careers and Skills in Research Software

This Research Software Camp will be delivered over 2 weeks. Through a combination of hands-on workshops, a panel discussion and blog posts, attendees will gain a strong foundation in both the technical and professional competencies in research software.

The corpus of knowledge in the research software and digital research infrastructure community is constantly growing and evolving. It is impossible for a single group, person or institution to hold all the knowledge in their field. Therefore, knowledge exchange has become more crucial than ever. And it seems so easy - everyone can access huge amounts of information and data within seconds. But how to navigate the sheer mass of this information? How to reach the right people with the knowledge you want to share amidst all the noise? How to decide what knowledge is important and what can be discarded? How to build connections with those you want to exchange knowledge with? And how can you do all of this as part of a day job where knowledge exchange is rarely seen as an essential task?We want to explore these questions and more in a panel discussion with members of the research software community who are engaged in knowledge exchange, training and outreach in various forms.

<h3>About the Research Software Camp: Careers and Skills in Research Software</h3>The <a href="http://www.software.ac.uk/" title="http://www.software.ac.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Software Sustainability Institute</a> (SSI) runs <a href="https://www.software.ac.uk/training/research-software-camps" title="https://www.software.ac.uk/training/research-software-camps" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Research Software Camps (RSCs)</a>, which aim to improve coding literacy by providing attendees with tailored programmes consisting of online workshops; panel discussions; resources such as guides, articles, and videos; and one-to-one support around specific topics within research software. The RSC format prioritises entry-level training while also supporting the transition to intermediate skills.This year’s Research Software Camp, Careers and Skills in Research Software, will be delivered over the course of two weeks as a multi-session event tailored for early-career professionals, recent graduates, and anyone looking to transition into research software roles. Through a combination of hands-on workshops and engaging panel discussions, attendees will gain a strong foundation in both the technical and professional competencies in research software.
