Luxury Handbags Collecting: Live Conversation 1 with Meg Randell

W. SHANSHAN 珊然軒, established by Dr Shanshan Wang, is an antique gallery located in St James's, central London. Its major focus is on Asian antiques, in particular Chinese pottery and sculpture from the Neolithic period through to the Han and Tang dynasties, with an extension to later Korean and Japanese arts of the similar origins. It aims to rediscover the charm of the early objects from which later art forms derive as well as to exemplify the high aesthetic level that their later “descendants” have consistently inherited.The gallery also performs as a platform to share knowledge though themed exhibitions, handling sessions, lectures, etc. where art lovers regardless of age and origins can communicate and grow know-hows together.  The founder Dr Wang has developed a wide range of interests during the seventeen years that she has lived in Europe. The art events will reflect these interests and will aim to demonstrate cross-cultural and inter-disciplinary influences between European and Asian art. W. For the first live conversation, we are delighted to have our guest speaker Meg Randell, Head of Department - Designer Handbags and Fashion at Bonhams. Shanshan and Meg will talk about the development of luxury handbags as a new category of collecting, as well as the current trend and market.Meg Randell is the <a href="https://www.bonhams.com/departments/HBS/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Head of Designer Handbags and Fashion</a> at <a href="https://www.bonhams.com/locations/KB/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Bonhams, Knightsbridge</a>, having joined the department upon its launch in 2020. After studying History of Art at the University of Birmingham, Meg worked for a number of regional auction houses in Gloucestershire and Shropshire, specialising in European ceramics and vintage fashion. Noticing a gap in the luxury market, she moved to London in 2013, setting up a successful Designer Handbag Department for an established West London auction house. In 2015 Meg moved to Chiswick Auctions, where she successfully established their Designer Handbag and Fashion Department. As both an auctioneer and a specialist, Meg has sold several important and rare handbags from names such as Hermès and Chanel, becoming a recognised authority in pre-loved luxury goods.She's also part of the team wokring on the cross-category auction <a href="https://www.bonhams.com/video/32558/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Pop x Culture</a>, which will incorporate fashion accessories and designer handbags.
