ABOUT THE AUXILIARYGALLERY // STUDIOS // WORKSHOP // TOOL LIBRARY // RESIDENCY // FESTIVALSThe Auxiliary Project Space (Estb. 2016) started life as a raw, malleable live/work space in Stockton-on-Tees. Inviting artists into the home of directors Anna Byrne & Liam Slevin, the idea was to reimagine and reconfigure the space around their needs; from workspace to gallery, meeting point to studio. The Auxiliary grew and expanded, delivering festivals and performance series across the Tees Valley such as FEED (2016-Present) Middlesbrough Art Weekender (2017 - 2019, 2021, 2022,) Brick Day 2017, Stockton Contemporary 2018 and Sonic Arts Week 2019 & 2021. Upcoming festivals include Middlesbrough Art Weekender 2023 & Sonic Arts Week 2023.In 2019, The Auxiliary expanded to include a 10,000 sqft. warehouse space in Middlesbrough. Consisting of two galleries, 12 studios and workshop/performance space. In 2022, The Auxiliary purchased their building and 2023 will see the start of £1million refurbishment thanks to Capital Development Fund.Curatorially, The Auxiliary is a site for the production of experimental & sound art practices. It encourages & promotes the sonic arts through investigating the rich local industrial heritage and reimagines the Tees Valley as a site for invigorated, creative industries.

Common Ground

Common ground is a community food growing and artmaking programme guided by a wide range of artists, agricultural experts and community members.  We are building a micro-farm for growing our own produce, to eat, grow and share!

Common Ground Saturday SessionsJoin us for our introductory workshops for Common Ground where artist Cassie McGuire will lead the first 3 sessions, looking at insect environments, particularly bee habitats. We’ll be making bee hotels and bug houses. There will be an opportunity to learn sketching techniques - drawing bees in a variety of media. Attendees will also learn more about the plans for the Common Ground micro-farm and wider project. <h2>Come and explore Common Ground!</h2><h4>common ground is a community food growing and artmaking programme guided by a wide range of artists, agricultural experts and community members. We are building a micro-farm for growing our own produce, to eat, grow and share. along the way we will explore both large and small-scale creative projects for the micro-farm area, from building bee hotels to painting murals.</h4>Details:· Common Ground will run year-round in The Auxiliary’s social space and outside allotment area.· All our sessions are free with light refreshment provided.· Activities are suitable for families, young people and individuals of all ages, who are interested in community, food growing and creativity.· No prior experience required and all skill levels welcome.· We aim to make the sessions as accessible as possible but we may not be able to meet all needs at this time, particularly when working outdoors due to the nature of the outdoor space. Be reassured we are working to resolve potential access issues and please do contact us if you have any questions about access.Common Ground is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund via an Awards for All grant.
