Is there parking?

Yes, please head towards the usual parking for Newstead Abbey, which will be free for attendees.

Will we definitely see bats?

Accepted Answer

Bats are wild animals, so sightings can’t be guaranteed — but with our detectors you’ll almost certainly hear them, and learn to recognise their calls and flying patterns!

What happens if it rains?

Accepted Answer

We’ll still head out if it’s a light drizzle, but in the case of heavy rain or high winds, we may need to postpone for safety reasons. Any changes will be shared with attendees as soon as possible.

Is it suitable for children?

Absolutely. The walk is family-friendly and a lovely way to introduce children to nature after dark. Just keep in mind that it will be dark, so little ones might want to hold hands or stick close.

Do I need to bring anything?

Bring warm layers sensible footwear — the paths can be uneven in places. A flask of something warm never goes amiss on an autumn evening either!

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes please! Spaces are limited, so booking ahead helps us make sure everyone has a bat detector to share and can enjoy the experience safely.
