CHASE Essentials provides some of the core skills you will need throughout your PhD and beyond. Some of the workshops will be specific to the stage of your study, please ensure that you choose these appropriately.Open to all Arts and Humanities at CHASE institutions.

Zoom sessions 1000-11.30 each day plus a 45-minute session at the end of the day.

Course tutors will arrange a tutorial directly with the student in the days between the sessions.

Where and when do you get your best ideas? And how do you capture them? Can you cultivate frames of mind and ways of working that will help you access a highly creative state at will?

We tend to receive insights and make new connections when the mind is relaxed and wandering – when we’re thinking ‘soft’, not hard, when the mind is open to ‘left field’ input and can stretch itself sideways, diffusing rather than sharpening focus.

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to engineer the creative mindset using divergent thinking exercises, freewriting, guided contemplation, and methods we’ve adapted from NLP practises, and you’ll apply these techniques directly to your own research project. We will explore working habits and writing techniques that open up spaces in which creative insights can arise.

By registering below you are requesting a place on this training programme or selected sessions that form part of the programme. A member of the CHASE team or the workshop leader will contact you in due course to confirm that a place has been allocated to you. If you are allocated a place but can no longer attend, please cancel your Eventbrite registration or email training@chase.ac.uk so that your place can be reallocated. CHASE training is free to attend and events are often oversubscribed with a waiting list. Failure to notify us of non-attendance in good time means your place cannot be reallocated and repeated failure may mean that your access to future training is limited.
The training is open to:
•	CHASE funded and associate students,
•	Arts and Humanities PhD students at CHASE member institutions,
•	and students and members of staff at CHASE partner institutions
•	Arts and Hum PhD students (via the AHRC mailing list)
