CHASE Essentials provides some of the core skills you will need throughout your PhD and beyond. Some of the workshops will be specific to the stage of your study, please ensure that you choose these appropriately.Open to all Arts and Humanities at CHASE institutions.

This programme busts the mythical archetype of the isolated scholar… or at least offers you a viable and more satisfying alternative. Professional and personal relationships have the capacity to enrich your research life, during and beyond your doctoral research. This workshop offers a range of techniques that enable you to connect more meaningfully with others, to forge and nurture networks in a way that is authentic to you and maintains your integrity – as a researcher and as a human being. We’ll explore different methods for communicating your research to peers, academic colleagues and non-specialists alike. For those that feel a sense of ‘ickiness’ at the idea of networking and self-promotion, we’ll uncover how these (very common) feelings arise, and what you can do when they emerge. You’ll experiment with defining and articulating what you might contribute to relationships and collaborations.Learning outcomes: Engaging with this workshop will enable you to:• Differentiate between courage and confidence, discern which serves you better• Take ownership of your researcher identity in a way that empowers you to forge authentic connections• Experiment with approaches to communicating your research, taking into consideration your purpose and audience• Evaluate how networks and connections could support and supplement your personal research path, context, and career.

By registering below you are requesting a place on this training programme or selected sessions that form part of the programme. A member of the CHASE team or the workshop leader will contact you in due course to confirm that a place has been allocated to you. If you are allocated a place but can no longer attend, please cancel your Eventbrite registration or email training@chase.ac.uk so that your place can be reallocated. CHASE training is free to attend and events are often oversubscribed with a waiting list. Failure to notify us of non-attendance in good time means your place cannot be reallocated and repeated failure may mean that your access to future training is limited.
The training is open to:
•	CHASE funded and associate students,
•	Arts and Humanities PhD students at CHASE member institutions,
•	and students and members of staff at CHASE partner institutions
•	Arts and Hum PhD students (via the AHRC mailing list)
