Queues, Clogs and Redemption

Wood Street Mission is a Manchester children’s charity which helps children and families living in poverty in Manchester and Salford. We provide practical help to meet children’s day-to-day needs and improve their life chances, and raise awarenss about child poverty through communications and living heritage activities.Every year the charity helps about 7000 children and 3000 families – a figure which has doubled in recent years.

Wood Street Mission

Queues, Clogs and Redemption looks at the work of Wood Street Mission over the years from "rescuing" street children in the C19, sending tens of thousands of children to the seaside in the twentieth and running a city gym in the 1980s. The exhibition is accompanied by a specially commissioned historic walk from Wood Street off Deansgate to the Marble Arch pub in Ancoats and launch of a one-off 'Wood Street' traditional bitter courtesy of Manchester brewery, Marble Brewery. The Exhibition opens at 5.30 on 9 September and runs until Friday 9 October at Wood Street Mission, 26 Wood Street, M3 3EF.Exhibition opening times: Fridays 10.00 - 4.30pm and Wednesdays 10.00 - 7.00pm once exhibition has opened. There is a building tour on both days at 11am. The launch event is on Wednesday 9 September from 5.30.   The walks take place on Wednesday 9 September after the Exhibition opening (route: Wood Street Mission off Deansgate to Marble Arch pub in Ancoats) and Wednesday 16 Sep @ 6.30. (Route is reversed: Marble Arch pub to Wood Street) The ticket includes the price of a 'Wood Street' bitter or alternate drink.
