Paradigms - Artist Talk // part one

Look Again is a year round programme that develops and supports the creative sector in the north east. As well as the hugely popular Look Again Festival, we run Look Again project space, hosting exhibitions and events, Creative Chit-Chat nights and our creative business incubator, all designed to connect, highlight and strengthen creative practices in Aberdeen.Look Again is a project based at Gray’s School of Art, Robert Gordon University. Artist talk with Aberdeen based visual artists Phoebe McBride and Abby Beatrice Quick and Devon based writer Tilly Craig.

Join us online for part one of a two-part series of talks as part of Paradigms, an exhibition of work by emerging artists in Aberdeen and Plymouth, curated by Rachel Grant. The exhibition includes work by visual artists Phoebe McBride, Molly Erin McCarthy, Rhys Morgan, Carly Seller, Abby Beatrice Quick and writer Tilly Craig at the Look Again project space in Aberdeen. This first event gathers Aberdeen based visual artists Phoebe McBride, Abby Beatrice Quick and Devon based writer Tilly Craig to talk about their newly commissioned work for the show. Phoebe and Abby’s works were developed during an international residency in Pano Lefkara, Cyprus this summer where the island faced some of the worst wild fires in recent history. Their individual works explore themes of ecology, culture, folklore, loss and preservation. Writer Tilly Craig’s text GHOST LINES explores the coastal locations of Plymouth and Aberdeen and their communities through folklore and relics of industry in their land and seascapes. Curator Rachel Grant will provide a short introduction to the practitioners work and exhibition. This event is supported by Look Again a creative unit based at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen. In response to the British Art Show 9 arriving in Aberdeen, Look Again facilitated an opportunity for a curatorial exchange programme, supported with funding from Creative Scotland. The result of which is the exhibition and public programme. Phoebe McBride Phoebe McBride is a multimedia Artist currently based in Aberdeen. Her practice is concerned with exploring the space between what is real and what is imagined by using moving image, text and photography to create poetic documents of the everyday. Her research involves using fiction as a method to explore real, imagined and inaccessible environments. McBride graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2017 from 2019-20 she was a fellow for the Curatorial Fellowship programme at Peacock Visual Arts and is one half of Haar(bour) publication design collective. Recent projects include ‘Letters to the centre of the world’ - an exhibition and letter writing workshop hosted by NOMAD Aberdeen.Abby Beatrice QuickAbby Beatrice Quick is an image maker, artist and sometime DJ in worlds of myth between swam and sky. Her approach to image making is rooted in a pull towards perceptions and constructions of reality, whereby the camera becomes a vessel for exploring possible worlds. She graduated from Gray’s School of Art in 2018 where she remained as Graduate in Residence and dark room technician. From 2019-20 she was a fellow for the Curatorial Fellowship programme at Peacock Visual Arts. She co-runs aerial community radio and is one half of both Haar(bour) publication design collective and Miasma projects. Tilly CraigTilly Craig is a writer and producer based in Devon. She holds an MA in Literature &amp; Film from the University of Exeter. Her practice examines place, identity and the occult within both historic and contemporary contexts and environments. Her experience in arts writing and production includes developing publications and programmes for organisations such as The Box, Plymouth College of Art and KARST gallery and studios. She is a member of production agency FLOCK and of Black Mirror research network. Her writing has been featured by Elephant, Suspira, Broccoli and Record Collector magazines. She recently produced and edited the catalogue for artist Mohini Chandra&#x27;s exhibition, Paradise Lost (2021).
