TWIC Conference: Coastal Recording & Conservation

TWIC is the Local Environmental Records Centre for south east and part of central Scotland that collects, collates and disseminates information about the wildlife in our area. The Centre is a not-for-profit company with charitable status and provides objective, independent wildlife information for people and organisations.TWIC is the focal point for biological recording in our area and is working to increase our knowledge of the land, freshwater and marine wildlife throughout our region. The Centre provides a wide range of data services; we routinely supply data to local authorities for screening planning applications, to consultants for preparing environmental assessments and to students and academics for research.The ongoing development of TWIC and its services is funded by grant aid from NatureScot, service level agreements with local authorities and income from contract work, projects and voluntary contributions.TWIC is a company registered in Scotland (No SC234339) and a registered Scottish Charity SC034113.

We are delighted to announce the programme for our 2025 Conference and AGM.Our theme this time is Coastal Recording and Conservation. Join us for a day filled with captivating talks, engaging displays, and a chance to meet with like-minded individuals. Anyone interested in wildlife recording and conservation is welcome to attend.The programme also includes a talk from our partners at <a href="https://www.brisc.org.uk/" title="https://www.brisc.org.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Biological Recording in Scotland (BRISC)</a>. As BRISC winds up in 2025, this talk will be a chance to hear about some of the history of the organisation, and reflect on the achievements of this small but impactful organisation over the last 50 years.The event concludes with the presentation of the Bob Saville Award, a prize that is awarded annually to an individual or group who has made an outstanding contribution to recording or have encouraged, supported, and passed on their wildlife knowledge to others in our area.The event aims to facilitate knowledge sharing and inspire others to get involved. If you’d like to share information about your recording initiative/scheme during the open mic session, or by providing an exhibit or poster, please let us know your requirements when you complete the booking form.There will be a chance to purchase raffle tickets and some second-hand books at the event, so please bring cash. Please indicate on your booking form if you would like to bring an exhibit and/or require board space for a poster.Exhibits are free of charge, although we ask any commercial organisations to consider a donation to TWIC (suggested donation £10). If space is limited, we will prioritise display space for recorders and recording and conservation organisations.TWIC will have a small second hand books section with donations for books going to TWIC. Donations of books welcome. <h3>Raffle:</h3>Tickets will be available to purchase during the tea breaks and lunch. Please bring cash. Tickets cost: £20 (students £15). The ticket price includes a buffet lunch, and teas/coffees served throughout the day.The booking deadline is Wednesday, 12 November. Early booking advised as places are limited. <h3>Getting to the venue:</h3>The conference will be held in the main hall on the first floor of the Port Seton Centre, South Seton Park, Port Seton, EH32 0BQ. There is disabled access to the hall via a lift.Public transportThe nearest train station is at Prestonpans (2.1 miles). Port Seton is served by Lothian buses (no. 26 or X5).
