JMT Spring Talk: The British Storm and Flood of 1953

Jaywick Martello Tower was built in the early nineteenth century to protect the coastline from French invasion. Today, it is open to the public as an arts, heritage and community space. The Tower hosts a varied programme of exhibitions and events.

<p>The storm of 31 January 1953 brought tragedy on land and sea. This presentation analyses the interaction of the many factors which provoked it, its sequence of events and consideration of likely recurrence. The talk is by Adrian Wright is illustrated by maps, explanatory diagrams and photographs.</p>
