Jaywick Martello Tower was built in the early nineteenth century to protect the coastline from French invasion. Today, it is open to the public as an arts, heritage and community space. The Tower hosts a varied programme of exhibitions and events.

<p>Join Dr Jane Pearson for this talk that examines the difficulties involved in attempts to control Colchester's serious prostitution problem which followed the arrival of the garrison in Colchester in 1856. We will look at who the 'girls' and their customers were, and why the town's various authorities were unable to reduce the problem.</p>
