JMT Spring Talk: Army, Navy & a little local history

Jaywick Martello Tower was built in the early nineteenth century to protect the coastline from French invasion. Today, it is open to the public as an arts, heritage and community space. The Tower hosts a varied programme of exhibitions and events.

Join Jaywick Martello Tower for their annual Spring and Autumn talks in March and October.
Tickets are £2.00 pay on the door on arrival. Book tickets for all five talks in advance and get the final talk free.

<p>Join Frances Boardman for this talk looking at the rivalry between the Army and the Navy, and how they came to work together.</p><p>The Royal Navy despised the Army but Kaiser Wilhelm was seen as a threat causing the need for a comprehensive invasion exercise to bring the armed forces into the modern era. In 1904, for the first time ever, the two services co-operated and between Clacton &amp; Holland-on-Sea six cruisers landed two divisions to march inland &amp; 'take' Witham.</p>
