Research Software Camp: Filament

The Software Sustainability Institute (www.software.ac.uk) is an EPSRC, AHRC, BBSRC, ESRC, NERC, MRC and STFC funded national facility that cultivates world-class research with software.We help people build better software, and we work with researchers, developers, funders and infrastructure providers to identify key issues and best practice in research software.

The Software Sustainability Institute  is delighted to present the workshop "Filament – a collaborative Python workspace for data analysis."

Are you looking to get into coding, but not sure where to start? Perhaps you are an experienced programmer looking to integrate data science activities across a diverse team. You need Filament. Filament is an all-in-one workspace for data, analysis and reporting. Our unique cloud-based platform combines data, executable Python code, and text to produce beautiful notebook style documents that allow real-time collaborative editing. The low barrier to entry means you can be coding within minutes, whilst the power and versatility of Python allows you to tackle even the most complex problems. In this workshop, Euan Wielewski (CEO), Clive Siviour (CSO), and Annie Sinclair will introduce Filament before allowing participants to explore its capabilities. Our experienced team will be on-hand to help, and we will have a further wrap-up discussion at the end. The workshop is designed to be accessible to people with any level of Python experience, from beginners to advanced programmers.Participants will be set up with a Filament account before the workshop, and will be able to keep the account afterwards. The workshop will be run on our Discord server, which also houses the Filament user community.

<h2>About the Research Software Camp: Beyond the Spreadsheet</h2>Our autumn <a href="https://www.software.ac.uk/RSCamp-beyond-spreadsheet" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Research Software Camp: Beyond the Spreadsheet</a> will run for two weeks from 1st to 12th November 2021. We will focus on the uses of spreadsheets in research and the next steps into further use of software in research.The Software Sustainability Institute runs free online Research Software Camps twice a year over the course of two weeks. Each Camp focusses on introducing and exploring a topic around research software, thus starting discussions among various research communities.
