This event will be in-person at the Large Senior Common Room, Oriel College, Oxford.Abstract: The cultural historian Johan Huizinga in his seminal work of 1938 Homo Ludens developed an extremely expansive view of ‘play’ as the key to various cultural phenomena, including philosophy. While one might think of philosophy as an essentially serious enterprise, there are good reasons for thinking that Huizinga’s reflections have particular significance for philosophical theology.Please register with your university email address to attend.
