LSFF x elop's weekly LGBTQ+ Over 50 Social Group: Trans Sister Seventies!

Each January, LSFF hosts ten days of short form, conversation and multidisciplinary curation. We present between 250-500 British and international films each edition, collaboratively programmed down from 5000+ open submissions, alongside Special Events and an industry offering of workshops, panels and discussion for filmmakers and workers.

Newly unearthed archival shorts chart the trans-feminine experience of the 1970s. Trans-sisters cut and spliced the body politic, experimented with emerging medicines, and strutted the streets, dragging the sixties’ sexual liberation into a new era. Whilst cis-sisters and brothers experimented with film and emerging video technologies to capture and confront these subjects thrust into the spotlight. Do student hippies, radical lesbian feminists and the media have what it takes, darling? What does it mean to become visible before the world could handle your existence?We travel from the hegemonic heart of trans-liberation in Greenwich Village to Baltimore basements adorned with future John Waters starlets. Across the pond are tranvestites in Sheffield fighting eviction, crescendoing into a newly discovered disco-fever film set in Ron Storme's legendary Drag Ball in West London. The reels are rolling and the revolutions wearing heels.Transsexuals, dir.
