QUB Gender and Sexuality PGR Conference: Critical Enough? Orientations of Authority and Resistance

Queen's University Belfast

We are delighted to welcome you to Critical Enough? Orientations of Authority and Resistance in Gender and Sexuality Research on Monday 10 August 2026, the Queen's University Belfast Gender and Sexuality Postgraduate Research Conference. This one-day, in-person gathering brings together postgraduate researchers working across the island of Ireland and further afield.Across five panels, a keynote address, and a plenary workshop, the day maps the many orientations (historical, literary, legal, ethnographic, creative, theoretical) through which research on gender and sexuality engages the regimes of authority that shape bodies, knowledge, and possibilities for living. The conference brings together 21 papers in total.Keynote AddressWe are honoured to welcome Dr Mary McAuliffe (University College Dublin), whose keynote A gender and queer turn in the archive: having fun and (re)making histories will be followed by a Q&A.Plenary WorkshopThe day closes with a plenary workshop led by Professor Dina Zoe Belluigi (Queen's University Belfast): Animate, entangled, troubled, clash, sustain: a "Mail Art" Workshop. Each participant will be provided with postcards, letter-writing materials, and envelopes. You decide how you wish to play, what you express, whom you address, how it is signed, and whether it is ever posted.Schedule

08:00–09:00: Registration and welcome tea

09:00–09:15: Welcome and opening remarks

09:15–10:50: Panel Session I, Bodies on the Line (remote presentations)

10:50–11:05: Coffee break

11:05–12:45: Panel Session II (Panels A & B)

12:45–13:35: Lunch break

13:35–14:40: Keynote Address & Q&A, Dr Mary McAuliffe (UCD)

14:40–14:50: Short break

14:50–16:30: Panel Session III (Panels C & D)

16:30–16:35: Short break

16:35–18:00: Plenary Workshop, Prof Dina Zoe Belluigi (QUB)

18:00: Closing remarks

A full programme with all paper titles and speakers is available and will be circulated to registered attendees ahead of the conference.VenueThe conference takes place at Queen's University Belfast, across two rooms: the Great Hall, the primary venue, where registration, the keynote, and the plenary workshop take place; and the Senate Room.
