About Dr Gemma Applegarth (teacher)

Hello and welcome — I’m so glad you’re here.

I’m a Psychologist, Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, wellbeing coach, and mindfulness teacher with a deep passion for helping people feel more grounded, resilient, and in charge of their wellbeing. My journey into mindfulness began during my doctoral studies in Counselling Psychology at the University of Wales. What started as a personal practice soon became a transformative tool — one that helped me navigate difficult thoughts and emotions and circumstances. Today I teach within the NHS and across a variety of settings. I also work as a freelance writer specialising in topics close to my heart: wellbeing, mindfulness, and psychology.

Active Mindfulness was born out of a passion to help make evidenced based psychology available to all. When people have the right tools they can bring mind and body back together for greater wellbeing, find and work towards their own unique potential and feel empowered to live well.

I’m registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), and the British Association of Mindfulness Based Approaches (BAMBA).
