Overview

The Wheeler Institute welcomes Kenneth Rogoff, Maurits C. Boas Professor of International Economics at Harvard University to LBS

The Wheeler Institute for Business and Development is honoured to welcome Kenneth Rogoff, Maurits C. Boas Professor of International Economics at Harvard University to London Business School for a lecture and conversation centred on his highly anticipated new book Our Dollar, Your Problem: An Insider’s View of Seven Turbulent Decades of Global Finance and the Road Ahead. Few scholars have shaped our understanding of the international monetary system as profoundly as Rogoff, whose work continues to define debates on financial crises, sovereign debt, and the architecture of global markets. The event will offer a rare opportunity to hear directly from a global thinker whose insights have informed academics, policymakers, and investors for more than four decades.

In this discussion, Rogoff will delve into the forces that driven the U.S. dollar to its global dominance, the political and economic choices that have reinforced its position, and the emerging pressures that may challenge it in the years ahead. As shifting geopolitics, technological change and persistent instability redefine the global financial landscape, Rogoff brings unmatched historical perspective and analytical clarity to the question of whether the world is approaching a turning point, and what that would mean for developed and emerging economies.

The conversation will be moderated by Hélène Rey, Lord Bagri Professor of Economics at London Business School. With her deep expertise in global capital flows and financial cycles, Rey will engage Rogoff in a forward-looking examination of the dollar’s future, its implications for global development and stability, and the policy decisions that may shape the next era of international finance.

This event offers a rare opportunity to explore the forces shaping the international monetary system, the challenges facing the U.S. dollar, and the implications for global financial stability and emerging economies. We look forward to welcoming you to London Business School.
