Eccleshall on-call firefighter taster session - women's session
If you're considering becoming an on-call firefighter come and see the role in action to find out more.
If you've considered applying to become an on-call firefighter but want to learn more about the role and how it could fit around your life before you do, come along to this session to meet the crew and find out what it's all about.
We'll explain the role in more detail (the recruitment process, the pay, the hours, training etc), and give you the opportunity to chat with the crew to ask any questions you may have.
Then you’ll take part in a selection of job related tasks to give you an idea of what you'll need to do for our entry fitness test. These include casualty evacuation, manual dexterity, ladder leg lock and equipment carry.
If you are wondering what 'on-call' means, the role of an on-call firefighter is exactly the same as that of a full-time firefighter but with one difference – on-call firefighters aren’t based at the fire station all the time, they have an alerter and they only respond when there’s an emergency.
Anyone over the age of 18 who has a driving licence and lives close to an on-call station can apply to become an on-call firefighter, and all applicants will go through the same recruitment and training process.
