Join Dr Sarah Bearchell (and Oso!) for a special live online Assembly to share and celebrate everyone's work and creations

Dr Sarah Bearchell found Oso, a small orange creature, living in her shed. Can you use the clues to help discover where he lives?This Whole School Challenge starts with a teacher-led game of Odd One Out, to discover differences and similarities between Oso and some well-known creatures.We then come together for an online Launch Assembly, to discuss what you found and how that gives us clues to Oso’s origins.Children are then challenged to design and create their own alien for a specific habitat – using their creativity and imagination, based on science!Photos of these Imaginary Aliens will be shared in an online Celebration Assembly.The challenge is differentiated by age, so your whole school can join in. Teacher support notes and slides provided.Curriculum linksEYFS: Understanding the World, Communication and LanguageKS 1&amp;2: Working Scientifically, Animals including Humans, Living Things and their Habitats, Forces, Materials, Evolution and Inheritance<h3>What's involved:</h3>This Online Whole School Challenge aims to get everyone using their creativity to invent Imaginary Aliens based on science.At the end of the challenge, you could use the work to create a display, and invite families to view it.Preparation: download and read Teachers resource pack as soon as possible (link available as soon as you sign up) because you will need to collect some art materials for the children to create their creatures. You can choose if they do this through junk modelling, drawing or collage.Use the preparation slide resource provided to get your class thinking about the topic before this assembly.Part 1: Monday 2 February - Join the live launch assembly on Zoom for your introduction to the challenge - approx 30 minutes duration (this short session will also be recorded and available to watch on-demand, if you can't make the live session). Part 2: In class activity, whenever you like from Monday 2 to Tuesday 10 February morning!This challenge is designed to help children think about how creatures are adapted to their habitat.After the Launch Assembly, use the Challenge Session slides to introduce the Challenge. Each group will design an alien adapted to a different habitat.Children can work alone or in small groups as preferred.They can make a sculpture or collage – your choice!Please take photographs and send them to the Festival of Tomorrow team for inclusion in the celebration assembly.Upload your class's results by the end of the day on Tuesday 10 February for them to be featured in our live online finale celebration.Part 3: Thursday 12 February at 2pm Live online Finale Celebration Assembly!Join the celebration assembly on Zoom to see everyone's best photos and results -and share learning from the week.JOINING THIS VIRTUAL EVENTOnce you have registered your class for this show, you will be emailed a few days before the event with all the links to join the live online launch and finale celebration assembly.
