Supporting Students with Sensory Differences

Occupational Therapy supports children and young people with their independence in aspects of daily living or their participation in activities at home and at school. The service provides advice on new ways for a child or young person to complete a task, or how they could use adapted equipment to help them participate or be more independent.

Children's Occupational Therapy Service

An online workshop to understand sensory processing differences and practical strategies to support students sensory needs in the classroom.

This 60-minute online workshop is tailored for school and early years staff who want to deepen their understanding of sensory processing and learn practical strategies to support students in the classroom. Participants will leave with practical, evidence-informed tools and strategies they can use to create supportive learning environments for children with sensory processing differences. Key Learning Points<ul><li>Understand sensory processing preferences and differences in children</li><li>Identify sensory preferences and challenges that may affect learning and behaviour</li><li>Recognise the signs of sensory dysregulation in students</li><li>Apply practical, evidence-informed strategies to support students’ sensory needs in educational settings</li><li>Create a supportive classroom environment that takes sensory needs into account</li></ul> Session FormatDelivered online via Microsoft Teams, the workshop combines slides, spoken input, and opportunities to ask questions through the chat function. Please note that advice cannot be given about individual children during this session. Practical InformationJoining details will be emailed to participants a few days before the session. All workshops are delivered via Microsoft Teams and require an internet-enabled device. About the WorkshopThis workshop is led by an Occupational Therapist from the Sensory Processing Service. This workshop is suitable for teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs, and early years staff who want to develop a stronger understanding of sensory differences and learn practical, evidence-informed strategies to support students effectively in the classroom.
