Making the Most of Sensory Circuits

Occupational Therapy supports children and young people with their independence in aspects of daily living or their participation in activities at home and at school. The service provides advice on new ways for a child or young person to complete a task, or how they could use adapted equipment to help them participate or be more independent.

A practical workshop introducing sensory circuits and how to use them in schools to support regulation, focus, and readiness to learn.

This 60-minute online workshop provides an overview of sensory circuits and their role in supporting students’ regulation and readiness to learn. Participants will explore why sensory circuits are beneficial, how they work, and how they can be effectively integrated into the school day to promote focus, regulation, and the development of motor skills. Key Learning Points· Understand what sensory circuits are and the principles behind them· Recognise how sensory circuits support students’ regulation, focus, and readiness to learn· Explore the benefits of sensory circuits for developing motor skills and promoting well-being· Learn practical steps for setting up and running sensory circuits in school settings· Integrate sensory circuits into the daily routine to maximise their impact Session FormatDelivered online via Microsoft Teams, the workshop combines slides, spoken input, and opportunities to ask questions through the chat function. Please note that advice cannot be given about individual children during this session. Practical InformationJoining details will be emailed to participants a few days before the session. All workshops are delivered via Microsoft Teams and require an internet-enabled device. About the WorkshopThis workshop is led by an Occupational Therapist from the Sensory Processing Service. This workshop is suitable for teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs, and early years staff who want to understand the role of sensory circuits and confidently implement them to support students’ regulation and learning.
