Not Too Much Now: The Black Beauty Debate Club
A debate club… but make it all beauty, Black, and just the tiniest bit unhinged.
To the Black girls that have always been told they're doing too much... this one's for you 🥰
Welcome to Not Too Much Now, a monthly event where we gather to lovingly roast, challenge, and unpack the beauty standards that shape Black womanhood - with a mocktail in one hand and a PowerPoint remote in the other.
Each month, we’ll be diving headfirst into one beauty topic. Expect heated opinions, hilarious (and slightly chaotic) meme-filled presentations, and the kind of community energy that only a good yap sesh can bring.
We’re not here to solve everything - we’re here to laugh, reflect, and respectfully (!) debate beauty culture today.

Date: Wednesday 11th February, 7pm-9pm

This Month's Question:
Do beauty routines help Black women practise self-love - or place pressure on us to constantly ‘work’ on ourselves?
For many Black women, beauty routines are moments of care - time set aside for ourselves through skincare, hair rituals, makeup, and maintenance. They can feel grounding, creative, and affirming.
At the same time, beauty culture often celebrates consistency, improvement, and “keeping up.” When does self-care feel nourishing, and when does it start to feel like obligation?
Are beauty routines a genuine expression of self-love, or do they sometimes blur into expectations about how we should look, show up, and maintain ourselves?
Let’s talk about it 💗👀
📝 How It Works:
We kick off each session with a few house rules to keep things fun, respectful, and safe for everyone.
Then our speakers take the floor, one 'for', one 'against', with audience polls, group discussions and plenty of back-and-forth.
Wanna be a speaker? Drop us a line: info@black-owned.co.uk
🎤 What to Expect:
- A set debate topic (announced in advance!)
- Bold, funny, culturally-rich presentations by community members
- Real talk, audience participation, and a few “wait… is she wrong tho?” moments
- Vibes and good company - because we’re debating, not arguing
👑 Who It’s For:
This is a space created by and for Black women aged 21+ who love beauty, culture, and a bit of friendly discourse. Whether you want to take the mic or just enjoy the ride, you’re welcome.
Now babes... Let’s talk beauty!
Tickets for this event are non-refundable - no event transfers or refunds permitted.
