A conversation with Anthony Gottlieb

A conversation with Anthony Gottlieb

47 Bedford SquareLondon, England
Thursday, Mar 12 from 6:30 pm to 9 pm GMT
Overview

Join us for a live converation with Anthony Gottlieb about his new bioography of Ludwig Wittgenstein

We invite you to an in-depth conversation on the thought, life and times of Ludwig Wittgenstein, featuring the author of the most significant new biography in decades.

Anthony Gottlieb’s latest work, Ludwig Wittgenstein Philosophy in the Age of Airplanes (Yale University Press, 2026), moves beyond the "tortured genius" trope to re-examine Wittgenstein’s formation within the specific musical and intellectual pressures of the Viennese Jewish elite.By contextualizing the transition from aeronautical engineering to the Tractatus, Gottlieb asks: how did the mechanical spirit of the early 20th century shape the most "anti-scientific" of philosophers?

Joining him is Constantine Sandis, whose recent work— Wittgenstein on Other Minds: Strangers in a Strange Land (Anthem Press, 2025).—delves into the ethical and epistemic limits of understanding of others.

Please note that unfortunately the venue building is not wheelchair accessible. The conversation will also be streamed live via Zoom. Register for the online event here https://zoom.us/meeting/register/1h3Gn55hR_O59Qlm7jV1ow#/registration
