Explore the Cathedral from on high! Climb to the top of the Millennium Tower and discover the story of how it was built in the 21st century.

A unique experience for visitors and locals!


Climb 202 steps to the top of the St Edmundsbury Cathedral tower, completed in 2005 as part of the Cathedral's Millennium Project. Find out about the building of the tower, the crafts and materials involved. Our experienced guides will take you behind the scenes and share the building's secrets. Be ready for fantastic views from the top too, including the town and Abbey Gardens. Don't forget your camera!


Tour dates are released a month at a time - approx two weeks before the start of the month; i.e. bookable dates for May will be released mid-April. Please check back accordingly.


Please note our terms and conditions:


Access will not be permitted to:

• Any children under the age of 10 (children aged 10-17 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.)

• Adults aged 80+ (stipulated by our insurers)

• Anyone believed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

• Those who are nervous of heights and suffer from vertigo and/or claustrophobia. The tour includes spiral staircases and narrow passageways.

• Those who are pregnant, suffer from heart disorders, or any medical condition or disability which might affect their own safety or the safety of others.




Health and Safety Issues

• Stairways are steep and narrow.

• A reasonable level of fitness is required to tackle the 202 steps to the top.

• The walkways may be slippery.

• No high heels, bare feet or flip flops. Any sandals must be securely fastened. No long skirts due to the trip hazard they present.

• All bags must be left at ground level, a secure locked location will be provided for bags during the tour.

• Decisions and instructions of the Cathedral Tower Guides are final and must be followed without question at all times.


We will honour refund requests where possible, if made more than 48 hours before an event start time. Refunds will be issued minus booking and admin fee.
