Somerset Day on the Levels - The Lost Somerset Singers

Somerset Day on the Levels - The Lost Somerset Singers

St Andrew's ChurchAller, England
Sunday, May 10 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm
Overview

Yvette Staelens tells the story and sings the uplifting, and sometimes raunchy lost rural folk songs of the country people of Somerset

Yvette Staelens is a natural voice practitioner, choir director and workshop leader based in Somerset. She is also an archaeologist and a Senior Teaching Fellow at Bournemouth University.

The Lost Somerset Singers are the people of rural Somerset who sang for the famous Edwardian collector of folk songs, Cecil Sharp. The Singers can be found on the Somerset Folk Map with songs collected from across Somerset including Hambridge, Langport, Harptree, Hazelbury Plucknett, the Quantocks and Exmoor.

Described as having a "beautifully clear, simple yet unforced voice which instantly demanded to be listened to attentively", Yvette's performances delight audiences who feel they " left with a sense we'd unexpectedly found a real sharing of the wonderfully multi-faceted experiences of life"
