Think Human Festival 2026

Think Human Festival 15-18 April 2026. A programme of free events demonstrating the value and relevance of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences research and teaching at Oxford Brookes University. Everyone is welcome, so sign up and join the discussion.

Inside Motherhood is an immersive, research-led event that invites audiences to step inside the lived experiences of motherhood through Virtual Reality.Using a short VR experience recreating the inside of women’s homes, and based both on the researchers’ play Three M’others and the data collected during the COVID-19 pandemic, this event explores how maternal care has become increasingly digitised, and what this means for mothers’ wellbeing and access to support. The VR experience features excerpts from the play and poems written and read by Kate Thirlwall. The day will open with short talks from the research team, setting the context for why these experiences matter now, followed by an opportunity to explore the VR and research materials. This event is designed to be welcoming to mothers, students, researchers and practitioners alike. Children are very welcome, and child-friendly activities will be available in the space.Drop in between 11:30–14:30, with a live reading and Q&amp;A with poet Kate Thirlwall at 12:30Content notice: This event explores experiences of motherhood and maternal care. Some content may reference emotional wellbeing, isolation and healthcare experiences that some attendees may find sensitive.VR notice: Virtual Reality experiences can cause dizziness or nausea for some users. Participation in the VR experience is optional, and alternative non-VR viewing options will be available.
