Overview

DJ Kizzi breaks down the basics of creating a DJ mashup from scratch in this online workshop for women, trans and non-binary people

Saffron is delighted to present the February instalment of its 'Saffron Members Club' online workshop programme.

BUILD YOUR OWN DJ MASHUP

Mashups are the middle ground between DJing and production. The perfect first step towards formalising your live blends and transforming them into something more polished and ‘ready-to-drop’. And guess what? They couldn’t be easier to create.

In this relaxed digital workshop, DJ Kizzi (BBC Asian Network) will cover the basics of creating a mashup for complete beginners. Using the software Serato Studio, Kizzi will break down the steps in her process, showing how any track can be used as the basis for a mashup, and what you need to consider to make yours stand out.

Over the course of 2 hours, we’ll explore the benefits of making mashups for DJs, break down what stems are and how to separate them, think about the role of key and genre, before experimenting with layering two different tracks together. This is an interactive workshop in which participants will have the opportunity to build their own mashups with Kizzi in real-time.

We will email all registrees a free 3-month license for Serato Studio to download on the morning of the workshop. Please register in good time to ensure we can get the license to you, (and do check your junk/spam boxes if you haven’t received anything!)

This workshop will close with a Q&A and community discussion, offering space to chat with Kizzi and ask for personalised guidance and advice.

Think you would benefit from this session, but can’t afford to contribute? We have a few bursary spaces reserved for those in positions of financial hardship. We trust these will be taken by those who need them – no questions asked. Feel free to email us at members@saffronmusic.co.uk to request one.

ABOUT DJ KIZZI

On the live circuit, Kizzi has lit up legendary venues including Ministry of Sound, Fabric, and the iconic O2 Academy Brixton, sharing the stage with artists like Unknown T, B Young, Miss Pooja, Zack Knight, and PropheC.

Her festival CV is just as heavy, with standout sets at Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Glastonbury, All Points East, Down The Rabbit Hole (NL) and major outdoor events including the Commonwealth Games, Birmingham Festival, Coventry City of Culture, and Birmingham Mela.

Away from the booth, Kizzi has teamed up with global powerhouses like Nike, Adidas, Gymshark and Mixmag, while also championing the next generation of women in music by running free DJ workshops with Pioneer and Ministry Of Sound.

GENDER POLICY

The gender imbalance in the music technology industry is well-recognised. While we are absolutely not ‘anti-men’, we see that a shorter-term solution is to provide fellowship and learning environments that are not dominated by the cisgender male perspective. Therefore, these workshops are intended for women, non-binary, trans and gender non-conforming people to attend. While we do not ban cisgender men from attending, we hope that they will respect that this event is not intended for them.
