Get involved in our volunteering events taking place this year.

Ouaisne Common SSI is a sensitive and valuable site for a wide range of wildlife species, including rare orchids, birds, insects, green lizards, slow worms, grass snakes, toads, and is one of the last wild breeding sites of the Agile Frog in Jersey.In order to maintain this delicate site, invasive species are removed before they become too dominant and smother more delicate plants, and this includes Hemlock Water Dropwort (HWD). HWD can be beneficial in small amounts as it is popular with pollinators, however it spreads very easily and can take over large swathes of wet grassland areas without careful management.The task will include cutting HWD down, digging the roots out and loading into trailers. Doing this encourages native flora to thrive, sustaining the area as a valuable resource for wildlife.We'll meet at Ouaisne car park. All welcome. Children under 16 must be supervised by an appropriate adult.Tools and gloves will be provided, however, feel free to bring your own if you have them.Please dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes/boots/wellies and we suggest wearing long sleeve tops.This is a fantastic opportunity to make a positive difference to our natural environment.This is a change to the original task planned for this date, which has now moved to Friday 22nd May.
