3D Environment Design on Unity with Arjan Gurrero
Through guided demonstrations and exercises, participants will explore Unity as a creative tool. Please read all the information carefully.
This workshop consists of two consecutive sessions.
Session 1: Sat 21 Mar 11am - 1:30pm
Session 2: Sat 28 Mar 11am - 1:30pm
Each ticket covers both sessions.
This workshop is aimed at artists and creative practitioners interested in creating interactive and automated 3D environments using the Unity game engine. Over two consecutive sessions, participants will be introduced to building 3D scenes in Unity, automating behaviour using the C# programming language, and enabling interaction through the OSC protocol for non-conventional control. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on exercises, participants will explore Unity as a creative tool for simulation, interaction, and real-time environments.
This workshop focuses on building a live, automated 3D environment that can be interacted with using non-conventional controllers such as smartphones, other computers, or DIY electronics. The sessions are designed for participants who are new to Unity and programming, but who are comfortable working with digital tools and creative experimentation.
Workshop Content
- Introduction to Unity and the workshop structure
- Unity interface and 3D scene building fundamentals
- Introduction to C# scripting for automation and movement
- Scene customisation and environment design
- Logic for interaction and automated behaviours
- Sound integration in Unity
- Introduction to OSC (Open Sound Control) and non-conventional control methods
- Building and testing an interactive, automated 3D environment
By the end of the session, participants will
- gain hands-on experience building and customising 3D environments in Unity
- develop a foundational understanding of C# scripting for automation and interaction
- learn how to integrate sound and non-conventional controllers using the OSC protocol
- understand creative workflows for building interactive and simulated environments
