Have your say on economic, social and cultural rights in your area

Borders CollegeGalashiels, Scottish Borders

Overview

Join our Galashiels community engagement event to share your views on access to housing, food, health and education in your local area.

About this Project

Economic, social and cultural rights are about the things we all need to live a life free from fear and want. They include the right to housing, food, health and education.

The Scottish Human Rights Commission is coming to the South of Scotland to learn more about how these rights are being realised in your area. Throughout February and March 2026 we will be visiting different locations within the region to hear from individuals and community groups.

We want to hear about how you are experiencing these rights in your everyday life.

This community engagement event in Galashiels is an opportunity for individuals and community groups to feed into the project.

We are also holding an event in Dumfries in February 2026. For further information about the project and other ways to get involved, please see our dedicated webpage.

If you would like to discuss additional support to be able to attend this event, please email events@scottishhumanrights.com

More about monitoring ESC rights

We are working to build a picture of rights across Scotland. The South of Scotland is the second region that SHRC has visited.

In 2024, we published a report highlighting significant failures to meet human rights standards in the Highlands and Islands.
